The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall is often referred to as the crown jewel of the downtown Fort Worth arts district (the nation’s third largest cultural area), and it is a must for those who love world class entertainment. The 16-year-old, privately funded facility is impressively grand in its artistry and acoustics, and is very accessible for seniors.
The 2,056-seat Bass Performance Hall serves as a permanent home for some of Fort Worth’s major performing arts organizations, and as a stellar venue for international, national and local attractions—from musicals to opera and rock concerts. Resident companies include the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theatre, Fort Worth Opera and the renowned Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Cliburn Concerts. Each company has its own performance schedule, which adds up to a constant offering of quality entertainment.
Modeled in the style of Europe’s classic opera houses, the building is finished with an 80-foot-diameter Great Dome that is painted on the inside to appear as if it floats over the clouds. Heralding the entrance to the Grand Façade are two 48-foot tall angels, hand-carved from Texas limestone. Inside, every seat has a superior view and excellent acoustics.
Some of the most noteworthy performances staged at The Bass Hall have included Kenny Rogers, Harry Connick, Jr., Tony Bennett, Liza Minelli and The Vienna Boys Choir. Performing Arts Fort Worth, another organization that manages the hall, stages productions such as national companies of Broadway shows that are on tour. Upcoming Bass Performance Hall shows feature such diverse talents Loretta Lynn, Lyle Lovett, Star Wars and Beyond (presented by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra), the UNT One O’clock Lab Band, The Nutcracker (Texas Ballet Company) and the musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It (Performing Arts Fort Worth).
Seniors will find the Bass Performance Hall very accessible, with wheelchair accessibility and convenient parking. Large print programs and FM listening devices are also available if requested no less than three weeks before the event date. Tours are also available on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., which take guests to public and private areas; these last about 1½ hours.
