Five Questions Home Care Clients Can Ask at a Routine Checkup

By , 12:15 pm on

We get it. Your annual checkup with your doctor isn’t your favorite thing to do! But it is a good thing to do if you want to stay on top of your health. If you have home care services, your routine appointments become even more important as you continue to age.

The next time you visit your doctor, bring a notepad with you. Ask them these five key questions, write down their responses, and be on your way to maintaining your health!

What screening tests do I need?

In addition to the routine testing for your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, you may want to ask your doctor if any other screen tests would benefit you. For example, prostate exams for men, and mammograms for both women and men.

What should I be eating – or not eating?

If you have concerns about issues like your cholesterol levels, blood pressure, or weight, you may want to ask your doctor about making changes in your diet. They will be able to recommend specific foods to begin eating or to cut out to help you accomplish your goals!

How’s my weight?

Weight can play a major role in your overall health, and it can potentially put you at risk for disease. If you’re concerned about your weight, ask your doctor for some healthy recommendations to shed a few pounds and start feeling better.

What should I do before my next visit?

After your checkup, you may have some homework to do from your doctor. Think of your next doctor appointment as a milestone – Work to accomplish the goals you and your doctor have set before your next visit!

When do I need to see a doctor again?

Even though most routine checkups are done annually, there is no rule saying that you must wait an entire year to schedule another! You and your doctor can decide when the best time is for YOU to come back.
